Today’s presentation comprises photographs from Tokyo, but they’re not mine: instead, with permission from the photographers, I’m proud to present a curated set of work from my students’ portfolios at the end of the week. I leave the individuals responsible to claim credit or responsibility…but I think you’ll agree that it’s both a very diverse and accomplished set! 🙂 MT

Shinjuku, Tokyo: best suited to cinematic, urban, architecture and street; (more examples of what you might capture are here, here and here) think this is probably the best season to visit Tokyo – the trees are bright orange, the light is angled, and you’ve missed the grey winters, the cherry-blossom chasing hoardes, and the typhoons of summer.

My Email School of Photography is a personally tailored correspondence program to assist you with improving your image making skills, at your own pace, no matter what your skill level. I’ve had approximately 200 students in total and about 50 who are still currently at various stages of completion. A lot of my students go on to join me for workshops or Masterclasses, and vice versa – a workshop is a great way to accelerate what you’ve learned in the Email School, and the Email School is a great way to continue the learning post-workshop especially for topics that might require a bit more contemplation and iteration.
Thanks to a couple of coincidences of timing (more graduating assignment submissions than people on the waiting list and fast completers) I have one spot available for the Email School of Photography open now – details of the program follow after the jump. I’ve never advertised this mentoring program much simply because I rarely have any free slots to offer!

I’m currently finishing off some retouching from my last assignment before preparing for the Hanoi Cinematic Masterclass with Zeiss, but once again, as curiously happens the same time every year…it’s my birthday so I’d like to celebrate by giving you all a little gift – a thank you for your support over the last couple of years. For the next week, using the voucher code ‘MING2015’ gets you $30 off any video or bundle on the teaching store for purchases over $100. There’s no limit on the number of vouchers per person – use as many as you like in combination with whichever videos you wish – but the total number of vouchers is limited. Images like Lone Tree were made around this time of year. It’s a little tricky to time the autumn leaves precisely, but generally +/- a week or two is fine. Please note that Tokyo will be a little more guided location-wise than Chicago simply for ease of logistics and because of the language.
I’m pleased to announce two more Masterclasses for 2015, and a new Portfolio Review format – these will probably be the last two for the year, and in two of my favourite and most photographically rich cities:

After the jump, a few snippets of thought from previous Masterclass participants…
The fifth Masterclass will also be the first specialised one, on a topic I’m frequently asked to teach: the cinematic style of photography. It will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 21-26 of July 2015 inclusive. Better still, Zeiss has agreed to loan us with a suitcase of lenses*. As usual, the Masterclass is limited to just 8 participants, so please confirm early to avoid disappointment; read on to make a booking and for further information. For all of you who’ve been asking me for a Masterclass in Asia, here’s your opportunity 🙂
