This page will contain an archive of all of the main articles I’ve written by category and sorted with the most recent first – it seems that there are some fundamental navigational issues with WordPress that I can’t get around other than by manually updating this page with every new article. It’s a work in progress, of course…

Lens Review: Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Auto Focus-S NIKKOR Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

I recently got this new lens from Nikon, and hope you have an opportunity to review it, if possible.

My question is, for a teleconverters to use for it- I tried the following:

    Nikon D810 with :

    AF-S TELECONVERTER TC-14E III (lose 1.4 F stops)
    AF-S Teleconverter TC-17E II (lose 1.7 F stops)
    AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III (lose 2 F stops)

The TC 14E and TC 20E was fast auto focus and worked well with the lens. (.75 – 1 second auto focus)
The TC 17E is an older design and took about 3-4 seconds to focus (auto focus)

The TC 17E and 20E also wobbles a bit laterally at the camera / Teleconverter interface, The 17 more than the 20 (about 1 mm).
I would highly recommend supporting only the lens as I was even worried about breaking at the camera body interface.

Naturally, I like using autofocus to get a general focus, and manually dial at shooting.

I think you would have a blast playing with this lens, and would enjoy the pictures you create with this.
Your work is truly inspiring, and your reviews have always been spot on.
I have only seen a vague review by Ken R. (and thankfully this lens is too awkward to take pics of his ugly kids) and Fro (who gives a pretty thorough review), but not quite like you, who actually TAKES pictures to actually “see” what a lens will and won’t do.

    Keep up the great work

    Fred Schepp

  2. Ming, do you intend to test the D750?

  3. Lens review:
Ming, will you be reviewing/testing the new NIKKOR AF-S, 58mm, 1,4G? All the best, Per

  4. Any chance of a review of the Nikon mirrorless system offerings?

  5. any chance to review 24-85mm 3.5/4.5 Zoom?

Thoughts? Leave a comment here and I'll get back to you.
